In early 2012 Dawniel Patterson Winningham, a national advocate for women's initiatives, was approached by a colleague who suggested that she turn her efforts at supporting women nationally into a day of celebration and awareness.  Winningham, who believes that the power of women comes from their ability to improve themselves, thought it over and talked it out with close friend Pilar Torres, and business associate Karen Terry.  This is how National Day of Sisterhood was born.
